On route to the forest, we stop off at St Marys Church Entwistle to visit the church where the legend has it that Robin and Marian wed.ĭay 3: Today we meet our guide! Our guide takes us on a mixed tour, walking and coach (your coach will be used) of the city of Nottingham, after our guided tour finishes, we head over to Nottingham Castle, Civil War flared here, revolts roared here, and rebels roused the masses in the name of social justice. Sherwood Forest still pulses with the tales of Robin and his merry men…outwitting the law, helping the poor and cleverly using this forest as their home, hunting ground and hiding place. Our activities this month include a trip to see “The Mousetrap” which is returning to where it started, in Nottingham, to mark its 70 year anniversary. We were treated to the scandalous gossip of the day, how an eighteen inch waist was achieved (not to be tried at home!) and the language of fans, from the viewpoint of own costumed Ladies Maid who remained delightfully in character. Most recently, we were delighted to welcome our members and two new visitors to our monthly meeting when Jo Gilby’s wonderful talk about “The Life of a Ladies’ Maid” took us back to the very early Edwardian era and had us all fascinated and amused. Our ladies have enjoyed a busy few weeks of events and activities, the highlight being our much anticipated Afternoon Tea Cruise on the River Trent when twenty members set sail in the beautiful summer sunshine.Īn interesting commentary from the captain, good company and the usual debate about whether the jam or cream is spread first on the scones made for a very enjoyable afternoon. Our September meeting started with a minutes silence being observed as a mark of thanks and respect for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, a WI member for over 70 years and the ultimate inspiring woman.Ī tribute from East Leake WI has been entered in the National WI book of condolence and members were encouraged to contribute individually if they wish. ![]()
